DIALOGUE AVEC SHAMS

In this performance in the form of a self-portrait, Franco-Iranian dancer Rana Gorgani reveals herself through Sufi dance. She gives strength and power to her biculturality, and thwarts gender prejudice. Matthieu Hocquemiller, who excels at making minority backgrounds visible, puts her on stage, solo, and sets up a conversation with the mystical Persian of the 13th century; Dialogue with Shams retraces the dancer’s personal history through the intersection of autobiographical and fictional narratives in a rising, uninterrupted performance.
